I have been here twice and everything I ordered was so tasty. I am not sure why it's always empty. I really like the Banh Canh Cua. The broth is delicious. I also got razor clams, squid salad and sea snail with coconut sauce; love everything.

Food is fair-good. Portion size on the other hand, is poor. It's the same price if not more, for smaller portions compared to other places. Service is okay, depending on who's serving you. One girl came to us and asked us if everything was okay and if we needed more water just so she could pick up the bill/receipt cause we paid. We said yes to water and after picking up the bill she went to one of the guy servers and told him to get us the waters. We can hear them talking to each other in Vietnamese. The guy said, "You asked them so you get it for them." Umm... Okay? At least do it in the back or a little quieter so we can't hear. Awkward!

Yay! Another great restaurant added to Mile Square Plaza! Nice ambient Vietnamese seafood cuisine. Courteous and attentive servers. Came here and tried their Com chien Tom Cua (Fried rice with Crab and Shrimp). Very yummy and not so much grease like other restaurants.

Gotta get my fix...banh canh cua is the Best here. I always get this when I come here, beside all their other delish Oc, u gotta make sure u try all their recommendations. Also even though its a sea food restaurant you should try their steak too my sis always, I mean always get it.

I found this place on Yelp. Took my family here today. My husband and I order Banh Canh & Che Buoi, the kids had ribeye steak & fries. The food was just Ok, I had better. Maybe my husband and I order the wrong thing. If we do come back I'll try the seafoods. The place is clean & service was nice.

Been here three times and noticed that customer service is a lot better if you dine in. They handled my to-go order with attitude and would say "Hey you!" when trying to get my attention. They also assume everyone speaks Vietnamese. Nevertheless their cajun seasoning is good and different here! Not your typical Boiling Crab flavor. It has more garlic and actual chili and not so salty. My favorites are the extra spicy shrimp and crawfish. The wings are OK.

  • jane m.

they have unique dishes, but overly salty and overpriced. Not a fan of their crawfish, very unflavorful, there's definitely better alternatives for crawfish. I think this is "try it one time" kind of restaurant".

The Ba'nh canh was delicious. B'un rieu was also delicious. I don't think there was a lot of MSG because I didn't have a reaction like I usually would with other Vietnamese restaurant food. Service was excellent. The passion fruit juice was very refreshing with real passion fruit pulps. I would definitely return when I visit this area.

Two stars. One for the friendly service and a second for the fresh and tasty strawberry lemonade. The three stars they didn't make was for the overpriced oysters, a "strip steak flavored"ribeye steak with "McDonalds" fries, and a fried glass noodle with shrimp and crab dish that was 95 percent fried noodle and 5 percent popcorn shrimp. Not sure where the crab was. What I am sure is that it tasted as though it had been cooked several hours before we got to the restaurant.

I love their soft shell crab, but they really need to change the sauce. I would suggest ponzu sauce along with the soft shell crab.

This one is like family owned restaurant. Its nice just like any other vietnamese restaurant. The crawfish was actually very fresh, and flavorful. Since i don't really like cajun flavor at boiling crab, i prefer garlic and butter which this restaurant makes the best. The clam and chicken wings were good too. The only thing i wish they could change is that i want my crawfish in the bag to keep it warm rather then in a bowl...lol Imo definitely recommend this place! Thumbs up!!

The food was great. We got the crawfish, stir fry glass noodles, shaken beef, and grape fruit dessert...among other dishes. The waiter gave my mom a comp cheesecake slice with a candle for her birthday. He even sang with us. The staff was attentive and the place was clean. It was a bit pricey but seafood is pricey. It's hard to find parking in front of the place. You are better off parking on the side of the restaurant than driving around the lot.

  • Ilina L.

Food isn't great; post to be some resturtant where the Vietnamese celeb dine at or is own by one of them. Oc lau was pretty good and the clams. Other then that the food wasn't all that great. Place is nice and plenty of parking.

I wanted to try enough food on the menu before reviewing so I waited til I have visited this place enough times. So I have been here about 3 times now ordering from seafood to side dishes and today I tried "canh ga chien nuoc mam" omg it tasted nothing like nuoc mam. As I poured out the wings from the take out container greasy oil came pouring out with raw undercooked garlic and strong aroma of butter. I called just to make sure they didn't accidentally gave me garlic butter wings or something. They said it was canh ga nuoc mam. Everything just taste really bad here.

Very good tasting food, fast service. Beware, the portions are small, though. Technically, this place isn't a bargain. But it delivers when it comes to taste. The waiters don't have accents, but their English is funny. For example, one of them asked me if I wanted dinner three times, when it was obvious that I was eating dinner considering it was 7 p.m.

Just came here for the first time and loved it! It's pricier than most Vietnamese restaurants, but worth it. The food is fresh and MSG-free. We got the chicken wings, which were amazing. Seriously. We were scooping up the sauce it came with. The meat in the Bo Luc Lac was tender, and the pound of shrimp and clams were awesome (I love that sauce too ). It's like Boiling Crab without the annoyingly long wait. Also got shrimp fried rice, which was good, but not as much as everything else. Can't wait to go back and try a few other dishes Yelpers have recommended!

I and my friends usually come to starfish for our dinner after school. Our favorite appetizer always "oc Len xao dua" with bread and "deep fried calamari". The Kumamoto oyster is awesome (so fresh).... ( tip for you) should try the razor clam( cooked with their special sauce), the juicy crawfish and clam with garlic and butter sauce, and also some of other kinds of seafood, which I don't think they have it on their menu, are surf clam, scallop. Love starfish !!

I came here about 2 Friday's ago with my mother and sister for lunch because I work nearby, it was our first time here. It was cutely decorated to reflect the nautical theme but smelled a little too fishy but delicious at the same time. We saw they had a big menu but *exclusively* looked at their lunch special menu which was a separate page and for $5.99 per item. We settled on their pho, bun suong, and banh canh tom cua and my mom did the ordering while *pointing out each item from the lunch special menu*. Each of our orders trickled out of the kitchen. The pho came out pretty quickly which is normal and my sister started digging in. It smelled pretty fragrant and my mom was a little remorseful at not getting the pho because it smelled so good. My mom's bun suong came at out next and she seemed to enjoy it. My banh canh tom cua finally came out, I did notice it was a bigger bowl than the others but didn't think much of it, it was my first time ever eating this kind of banh canh. Like other reviews, I did only get one large shrimp but saw noticeable pieces of crab in the thick broth. I thought the soup was flavorful and was satisfied and thought this was a pretty good deal being a lunch special. Fast forward to the end of the meal, we get the bill and my mom noticed my banh canh was $9.99, which each of our bowls should have been $5.99. We asked a server (who was also the one who took our order) what's up with that. She said we got the large bowl of the banh canh, my mom tried saying how she took our order and we ordered from the lunch special menu and how we were suppose to know they brought out a large bowl instead, but this server wouldn't bulge, we paid just paid the bill since it seemed pointless to argue. We had a fairly good meal but this left a sour taste. I honestly don't understand why you would bring us the large bowl when we ordered specially ordered from the lunch special menu. Even then, if they were 2 sizes, why didn't you ask us which size we wanted instead of bringing out the large automatically so that we'd be forced to pay extra. I don't mind paying the few extra bucks but it seems so dishonest and puts the restaurant in a unsavory view, even if the food was decent, I wouldn't want to support a restaurant that doe something so small but off-putting like this.

I thought this place was just okay. Nothing really stood out aside from their decor, which was nicer than the typical Asian restaurants I've been to. My parents and I ordered 3 appetizer dishes and a main dish. Fried sweet potato $5, 6 chicken wings $8.50, 4 egg rolls $6.75 and a shaken beef rice dish $12. The wings I believe needed to be more cooked as I encountered red areas by the bone. The shaken beef was chewy and slightly tough. Their $3 pot of tea was not something I was used to, so I naturally did not enjoy it. It has this pungent taste and smell to it. They took forever to bring out a jar of chili and I had to sit through lunch with my parents complaining about it. It took a second request for the server to remember to bring it out. Hmm, probably will not be back anytime soon. Service wasn't that good either. I hope my stomach isn't upset later.

So my grandpa saw something in the Vietnamese newspaper and wanted to try it out so we went. The decoration is pretty, like being at the beach at a restaurant tho.. We started looking at the menu and boooy are they pricey. I lost my appetite just looking at the prices.. but he said just try it so we know whats good. I wanted cajun fries minus cajun.. for my daughter and it was regular fries. At least give me non cajun seasoning or something. Fries like $4-$5 something... in n out is better! Then our food came out.. it was in small portion like appetizer size. Appetizer size was smaller then entree size. Entree look like appetizer. . Ripe off much? Food wasnt good. Tea was too bitter and they overcharged us for something we wanted on the menu without telling us its something different or more $. $80 for 2 entree 3 appetizer to feed 5 mouths that came home still hungry!

This is a photo free review! I had a craving for crab fried rice - don't know why or how but that's what got me to Starfish. The restaurant is easy to find and in the same parking lot as the notorious Au Lac vegeterian version of Nirvana or so I'm told. As I've written in other reviews, I really appreciate gracious service. When I walked in, the man who greeted me (the potentially lost/out of place white lady), and offered me the take out menu. Instead I asked for a table. I was famished after a 10 mile hike, and a craving that was peaking. Long story short - I had the crab and shrimp fried rice and also learned that Com is Viet for rice (god, I hope that's correct) and the Razor Clams. They brought the clams first and asked me if I've had them before. I've had them in Spain but actually never in the US. That made no sense to him but they offered to cut the sandy pocket from each of the 5 or so clams and that became a team activity which included the Chef. How nice! The brown sauce, peanuts, greens and clam dish was really well balanced and tasty. They brought the rice with some Pho broth along side, explaining that the fried rice was a little dry and it sounded like they assumed the white lady might not like it that way. It was very tasty but more on the shrimpy side, than the crab flavor. Not greasy, a little peppery, lots of fresh cilantro. Anywho! At least three servers came over to chat or see if I was OK, wanted more Thai tea, broth or just smile. I was either a real oddity or they were just plan sweet and wanting to be helpful. Either way, I am very glad I took the adventure and if in the area again, I would visit my new friends! Thank you!!

At first, I was really sad when I found out that the restaurant moved because usually, whenever I crave Banh Canh or the Canh Ga Chien Nuoc Mam, I would usually just drive down the street to get it. But now, it's kind of too far. Despite the distance, I'm really glad the new location is a lot bigger than the older one. The decor of the restaurant still has the family vibe and canapé decorations. I still only go here for their Canh Ga, Oc Xao Dua, Banh Canh, shrimp chips, and their Oc Gung! Really glad they're back because I missed my banh canh!!!!!!

We were hardcore loyalists at the old location. We seriously went every weekend as a family for lunch. The owner always saw us and took care of us. Came here last weekend around 2pm for a later lunch. It's not that late but they were already out of their mi kho (dry egg noodle bowl). Two problems with this: first, it's a weekend around lunch time - if you're gonna put it on the menu, then you gotta have it; second - you're in the heart of little Saigon where there's a grocery store around every corner - if you run out of something, it literally will take you 10 minutes in and out to get what you need. So, not off to a great start. Ordered: 1) Oc len xao dua (coconut milk sea snails): great sauce as usual but the snails were on the smaller side. 2) fried squid: chewy. Legs only. Very disappointing. 3) bo luc lac (shakey beef): good but this is a no-brainer dish. 4) vermicelli and boiled pork dish: this is usually a favorite win but the pork smelled sooooo bad. It was a stinky smell like, as if it was a bad cut or older cut of pork belly. Plus, the Vietnamese mint leaves were eaten through by pests. Embarrassing. 5) garlic sea bass: very disappointed. The fish was mushy (a sure sign of frozen) and they used a bass steak which was littered in bones. Not fun to eat. Service: pretty sad. The waiter speaking Vietnamese was barely audible. It was like he wasn't sure what he was saying or he can't control the volume of his voice. I asked for a refill of soda chanh. He brought back a glass of water saying that they don't do refills. I totally understand that, however, they didn't even ask me if I still wanted one or not. He just walked away. I'm really disappointed because the owner was prideful about the fresh seafood he would get, and at the old location it was truly fresh and awesome. Here, the food has taken such a drastic turn for the worst. If he doesn't shape up then he's gonna lose his loyal following. I hope he reads this so that he can get the food and service up to par again. We used to love it... But not right now. Once we've been jilted it's really hard to get us back.

Good was delicious. We ordered soft she'll crab, Cajun fries, and glass noodles with tofu. Service was excellent. When the waiter found out I was a vegetarian, he went back to ask the chef if he could make something special and vegetarian for me. And the dish was good! Ambiance was romantic and nice. They have two flat screens, with some pop music in the background. Price was reasonable: two people came up to $33 without tip. I only deducted a star bc I would have liked to see more vegetarian options on the menu. Overall, we would come here again!

Eaten here a couple of times, and I have to say it's become my go to retaurant for Vietnamese food. they have a very robust menu that includes pho, rice, different noodles, and of course their seafood! my favorite is the crawfish with extra spicy sauce, the crawfish is really fresh. they just recently expanded as well, so the restaurant is much bigger and is very clean. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone.

My family is a big fan of this restaurant and their crew, ever since their old tiny spot in Garden Grove. We get the warm-family-treatment by the head waiter, Paul, everytime. And he is good at telling/selling you the items of the day, very nice guy. The food selection is great, their appetizers, finger-foods and especially the seafoods are all mouth-watering. We had a party of 9 last night and had to cancel the Hotpot since there was already too much food. They were very cool about it since the hot pot hasn't come out yet. Thank you, Paul for taking care of us. The other waiters and waitresses were also very polite and attentive, good training. I've tested them out with a couple of small requests and they've all passed with smiles on their faces. Great job, guys. I'm hooked. We had the chicken wings, mango salad, tamarind crabs. And can't walk away without having the crawfishs, shrimps and clams. The beers are also reasonably priced at $2.75, not $5 like other places. At the end, everyone walked away full and happy with the attentive service. They also gave us 2 bowl of water-infused in tealeaf and lemon so we could clean our hands after wrestling with the crawfishs and shrimps. Very smart. Comfortable and nicely decorated place, superb service, nice people, great food, reasonably priced. Can't complain. My kids have already asked to come back sometime next week. Two thumbs up ! After a good meal like this, walk over to Craved Tea for a drink and you're set for the night. Enjoy!

My friends recommended me this place a couple weeks ago. Finally had a chance to try it out today... I was just in the mood for crawfish, ordered 5 lbs just for myself... Man I was happy when I leave... Love love this place! Great service as well! Definitely coming back next week for more!!!

the stir-fried razor clam is my favorite dish... very flavorful... the décor is typical Asian restaurant with nice star-like ceiling lights. Service is prompt and polite. Will come back

Came here on a Wednesday night around 7.30pm, so the restaurant wasn't too busy. It's really spacious inside, the decor is decent. We ordered oc len, oc mong tay, goi oc (I couldn't figure out the name of it since it's on special items menu that day, and was recommended by the waiter), and banh canh. The food was delicious, but I still prefer oc len at Tebo Tebo over Starfish. Overall, we had a nice experience here, the servers were attentive and the food was really good. I'll come back for sure to try out other dishes.

Crawfish is a must here!! Also should try the octupus salad and finger snail dish. Service here is excellent and the restaurant is new. I especially like the fact that they have the tofu vermicelli with special fish sauce( bun dau mam tom).

good food but they need to seriously stop blasting techno/trance/edm music. it's beyond stupid and annoying at an ethnic restaurant. there is nothing more FOB than trance at 11am.

Love love love their crawfish, shrimps and clams. Love their sauce. It's so different with other places. Service was good. The servers and owner were nice. Definitely should give it a try. Love the quiet environment as well. :) will come back. Thanks for a nice experience.

Crawfish was so fresh and tasty! ! Flavorful and not too salty. I love garlic and it was garlicky. Lol. Coconut snails were nomz.!!! 4th time here this week. Good looking waiters don't hurt.

OK, crawfish is awesome.. my husband is really picky on food, especially crawfish... but he really enjoys it today, will definitely comeback for that... the deep fried squid is so so.. I think they overcooked it today...the banh canh cua, o.m.g it's so blank, I and my husband even couldn't taste any flavor there...but it's not bad as the attitude of the waitress we met today..she even didn't let me finish my order, she gives the name of the food she wants me to order, but J's keep talk talk..and when she brought the food out, let me tell u, no bowl, no spoon, no folk, no chopsticks, and no napkins... and then when I ask her how I suppose to eat.. she seems like I'm a annoying customer... but thumbs up for the waiters there, they r so gentleman, nice and know to use the right voice to the customer.. again, the crawfish is fuckin really good... they rock my day... happy father's day, guys... hope the service will get better...

It was very unexpected to find a authentic Asian fusion restaurant in Fountain Valley. But this place is really good. Good serving sizes and a very wide variety. Would highly recommend this to my friends in OC

Yup...went back for more. I basically washed my face with the sauce of the craw fish because it was so good.

I finally decided to try out Starfish since my sister claimed their crawfish was "just as good as the big guys like Boiling crab, but without the excruciatingly long wait". I came just a few days after the grand opening, and so there was still a lot of empty tables. There was more to the menu than just crawfish. My bf and I ordered a lot of food for 2 people, but my fav was crawfish and bap xao. Food came out fast and service was good. I'll def come back and try the recommended canh ga chien nuong mam and banh canh.

Nice and clean restaurant. Seafood items are ok, otherwise menu is limited. Don't order the crab fried rice. It was super dry. Razor clams dish was my favorite.

Best service ive ever had! Our server suggested different specials and so we ordered 2 lbs of crawfish and lobster noodles with fresh lobster. The food was great. The server noticed that I had a headache so brought over some hot water with lemon. So sweet :)

  • Bobby P.

The food is really good here. Seafood mad probs especially their crawfish shrimp and clams. I came here on the weekend with my family and it was soooo packed .The waiting for my food took less than 15 mins but I heard others waited 20-30mins. They are brand new so there are many things to learn. Their service is very good because when I needed the simple things it responded instantly. I hope they will improve on the bringing out the food faster. I love this place so I will be coming back for more. Free herbal tea and soda for two more weeks!

We came today for lunch on our friend's recommendation and also after seeing the stars they got on yelp. We were not disappointed. The food is excellent and the service is friendly and warm. We had razor clams, chicken wings and pho ngheu. The razor clams are fresh and the sauce is very tasty. The chicken wings are well prepared, crispy and moist. The pho ngheu is so unique and cleverly prepared. It is totally different from the traditional Vietnamese pho. I really loved the broth, the rice stick is not over cooked, the clams and huge shrimp are fresh. For dessert, the owner, Vincent recommends the Che buoi. Yum... So so delicious. We will definitely come back to taste other goodies on their extensive menu, especially their lau hotpot, their crawfish, abalone and many more... Will try to find out if a suggestion can be placed to Andre Bourdain's team to pay a visit to this special place. Definitely recommend this restaurant to my family and our friends.

This place is AMAZING!! Starfish serves affordable ,delicious authentic Vietnamese dishes and ESPECIALLY LIVE SEAFOOD. I pretty much had try everything on their menu and to be honest they are all dammm good. My parent and I always go there on the weekend and it's always packkkedddd, but it WORTH to wait. For appetizer, my parent and i always order the Squid Salad ( a little spicy but sooo good), Oc Len Xao Dua, Chicken Wings and Razor Clams( there is no words that can describe how GOOD the sauces, It just UNBELIEVABlE). For main dishes, we order RIB EYE ( very good seasoning and juicy :D), Kumamoto (which is the BEST LIVE Oyster that you can not find anywhere but Starfish) and of course, we have to order CRAW FISH. Unlike the seasoning from Boiling Crab, the Starfish seasoning doesn't only flavor their seafood but it's almost like it's own dish. The seasoning is mixed with garlic butter, cloves of garlic, ca jun seasoning, and it comes with lemon salt and pepper on the side. And for dessert, you cannot miss their Egg Custard and Che` Buoi (A little crispy from pomelo meat is combined with mung bean and coconut milk). Overall, the food was really good and on top of the fantastic food, the waiters and waitress at Starfish are friendly and helpful. In my opinion, this place will become a must go to place when it comes to SEAFOOD. You guys should give it a try and i will guarantee you that Starfish Won't Let Be Disappointed with their dishes..

This is the best crawfish place in town. By far, it is better than Boiling Crab. The flavoring of this place is very flavorful. Although theres a lot of mince garlic, the flavor of the sauce taste a bit tamarind. I am guessing that they were trying to incorporate the vietnamese flavor which I think is a perfect combination to tge crawfish. The service is very quick, and the servers here are friendly. Almost forgot... their average size of crawfish is 5-6 inches! Not like those tiny one at other crawfish places. 5 stars!

Maybe it's because it's a new location and the staff isn't used to the restaurant layout yet but our service was just disappointing. My family and I came on a Sunday night and after being seated, we waited around 45 minutes just for DRINKS. My sister ordered a soda chanh and it tasted like they dumped the whole lemon tree into the cup. We didn't even get the right order for that let alone the food. Once the first dish came out, the servers just booked it. We had to ask for the utensils and bowls several times. The waiters need to be trained more since we counted 3 of them coming in and out, back and forth from table to table not knowing where the food is suppose to go. Neighboring tables had to holler for them along with our table to bring the food to us. The poor kid looked so clueless..godspeed to him lol. By the end of the night, we even got the wrong bill. Other than the service, the food was exceptional. We've come to this restaurant a few times at their old location and the prices WERE reasonable. It seemed like they cut down on the proportions :/ Come to this place on a weekday/night. Avoid the busy weekends until they've gotten used to the new location.

We came to this restaurant a month ago on a recommendation of a friend, and really love their food. Cane back a few times after. Last night, we came back and ordered chicken wings, crawfish and oc hut. Unfortunately, we both got sick last night as soon as we got home, and I'm still sick, probably from the oc hut coconut juices. I'm very disappointed and will not be coming back. I gave two stars for the waiter who was very helpful.

I still haven't quite figured out what kind of food Starfish serves quite yet, but if you just want a safe bet for a good tasting meal, then this would be the place. In a location where the choices of places to eat lousy food is greater than your chance of winning the lottery, it is good to know that you can always fall back to Starfish. I think the food at Starfish taste best your first time and then slowly trends toward being just O.K. as your palate get accustomed to the flavor.

My favorite seafood restaurant!!! You can't beat it anywhere. Try the clams and the hot pot is to die for.

I love Starfish. I was abit skeptical at first, my friends introduced me here and I really enjoy the food. The chicken wings is a MUST, crawfish is really good, fried calamari is so crispy and perfect texture. Basically everything taste delish. I will be back for more!

The service was exceptional. The food came out fast and was well prepared. Our server Bobby did a great job and was very helpful in recommending the house specialties. My favorite dishes were banh canh (much better than Que Anh que em), cua rang me (dungeness crab in tamarind sauce), cua lot chien don (crispy softshell crab).

You know... I don't even like seafood that much, but anyways maybe I should've orderded the crawfish like everyone else. Nope, I decideded to order the ribye... wow I was actually impressed. It wasn't too fatty or greasy like when I order steak at other vietnamese restaurants, it was cooked perfectly too, which is probably why I will give this place an okay rating. The side of fries was like whatever. OMG do not order the clam fingers. Okay if that doesn't sound weird already, let me just say they tasted like ocean. Like eating a mouthful of saltwater mixed with rotten sea animal guts. IDK it was just repulsive... the waiter probably recommended it to us to get rid of it to be honest. So we also ordered Bo Luc Lac - standard, banh canh.. also standard and pho - random, but also typical with a lot of msg. It was hot inside, there were ants on the floor and the waiter never came by to refill our waters. Clam fingers... gross.

this is probably my new favourite seafood place. don't get me wrong, I still love the kicking crab/seafood shack/boiling crab... but this place is just different. it's not like the other places, it's delicious. the sauce they use for the shrimp & clams is more fragrant. loaded with lemon grass & garlic, it's perfect. I like that it's full of flavor but light at the same time. the shrimps are huge, and fresh. the clams are really fresh & always cooked well. we've tried many things on the menu, seafood & not, & they were all good! the service is great for a Vietnamese restaurant, although sometimes it may be tricky if you don't speak Vietnamese. it depends on the server you get. until next time !

Nice open restaurant. Large and comfortable but the front room is over-lit as many Vietnamese restaurants are. The back room was lit better and comfortable with a large projection TV showing NFL football. Sound was mixture of pop music and TV audio which wasn't as bad as it sounds here in print. The service was excellent and shared by the whole large staff. The food was flavorful and gourmet. There are a lot of lackluster Asian seafood places so I was pleasantly surprised that this was prepared with so much care and attention to fresh ingredients and subtle favors. My favorite dish was "Glass Noodle with Shrimp." It had a smoky taste and is the reason I will return. The "sea bass grilled in butter sauce" was very oily but the texture and flavor grew on me as it cooled. The appetizers were, "Squid Salad" which very fresh and light and the "Escargot in coconut sauce". The flavor of the sauce was excellent but eating them by suction prooved impossible for my elderly parents whom I was treating. Kind of a wasted order but the flavor was excellent. I enjoyed the excess sauce over rice. I found the portions to be adequate and priced fairly. The salad was large with loads of fresh squid. The the sea bass cut was a little light. This restaurant is worth a visit if you like food with flavor.

I had Banh Canh Cua Tom, Bun Rieu... it has too much MSG. Made my whole mouth went numb, I feel super woozie. So if you are sensitive to MSG please be careful.

This is by far the best place for Louisiana-style crawfish and other exotic dishes in the entire OC (and I've been to all the places that have "Crab" or "Crawfish" in their names, if you know what I mean). The chef has a "secret" sauce that he adds to the tasty buggers that makes them irresistible. Not to mention that they only serve you the "jumbo" crawfish (they are discarding the handicapped ones), so you are guaranteed to get your dollar's worth (and the price is right). Herbs, like for any authentic Vietnamese dishes, are fresh, and the young people serving you are super-sweet and helpful. Driving one hour from LA to get a load of crawfish and other traditional or exotic Vietnamese seafood dishes is totally worth it. Don't miss this hidden gem !

Went here last week with a couple friends and I enjoy their Crawfish so much. I never like crawfishes before but there garlic sauce was so awesome. Had to order 1lb for just myself. Fried rice was definitely not their best dish and it took awhile but it was ok. Next time I'm gonna order "cua rang me" and a side rice because it smell supper delicious. My girlfriend said the "bun dau" was great also, I'll try it too next time. Best Crawfish place so far !!!

First time, I ordered fried glass noodle with shrimp and crab, nothing was special. Second time, (because my friend wanted to try there) I had fried rice with shrimp and crab, OMG I couldn't even finish a half (I tried not to waste food) but it was very very chewy/ hard to chew and swallow; my teeth even hurt. I think they precook it and reheat it to bring for me. I really pissed off after eating it. Fried rice is the easiest dish to make you know. Never come back.

Overall: Starfish serves super oily food that is equivalent to a heart attack on a plate. I don't condemn food like this, as long as it's really damn good. This wasn't even close to good enough for me. The service is a little lacking, and the bathrooms are in horrendous condition. Sorry, but I'll pass up Starfish for almost any other restaurant on Bolsa. Food: 2 Calamari was unforgivably oily. I'll usually let the pool of oil at the bottom of the basket slide if my food is perfectly crunchy, but the calamari was unevenly coated in batter and barely crunchy. I'll pass because this isn't worth having a heart attack over. Chicken Wings: The seasoning was decent and the meat wasn't dry. However, the chicken was too fatty, too oily, and not crispy at all. Squid Salad was a-okay. The squid wasn't too chewy. It has a nice hint of spiciness, but it's not so strong that a spice wimp can't eat it...yay! Ong Choy with Razor Clams was also a-okay. There were bits of chicarones in it that added a nice fatty crunch. Sea Bass with Lemon Butter Sauce came with rice and a small salad. Again, the fish was too oily. It was a little more forgivable in this case because the fish had crunchy skin. The menu says that it's Ca Thuyet, which I believe is supposed to be Chilean Sea Bass. It didn't taste like Chilean Sea Bass which is much more moist and fatty. They either over cooked it or served normal sea bass. Both are no-nos in my book. Crab and Shrimp Fried Rice: It's an interesting version with rice that is actually almost fried. It's charred and crunchy to the bite. However, this makes the rice way too dry and the dish too oily overall. It was also over salted. Crab was scarce and scattered in dried up little flakes which, I guess, is slightly better than the nonexistent shrimps. Seafood Hot Pot: The broth was oddly unbalanced. It somehow managed to be too sweet, too salty, and entirely lacking in umaminess. How do you make a seafood broth that has no umaminess?! They gave a decent amount of food for the hot pot, but I wish they cut the veggies a little smaller. Pomelo Che: I'm not sure how much this cost, but the portion was really really small. I didn't taste enough fresh pomelo, and it was a little too thick. Service: 2.5 The waiters were polite, but they were forgetful and hard to find. To ask for something, you often had to actively attempt to flag someone down. And, often, they would take a long time to carry out your orders, which I suspect is a result of their forgetfulness. The waitress even admitted to forgetting our order of che, but she was really nice and apologetic about it. Ambiance: 3 The restaurant's dining area seems decently clean, but it has a kind of odd layout. I really took out points because their bathroom was in horrendous condition. It was an odd contrast from the decent looking restaurant with a poor paint job, rickety stalls, and lack of necessities like a trash can for toiletries (am I supposed to walk out with pads / tampons in hand?) and a working napkin dispenser.

Starfish serves up some dynamite bún noodle salad with sauteed beef and a refreshing basil seed drink! The sweet, garlic-citrus bún sauce clings to each strand of al dente rice vermacelli. Marinaded beef is sauteed with onions, giving it extra savory flavor. Crispy fried onions, roasted peanuts, fresh veggies and herbs pushed the dish over-the-top. This is my favorite bún in all of OC.

The crawfish sauce was okay but it wasnt salty . The food was alright , there sauces and flavors need more of a taste.

We finally came to this restaurant to try their food. I wanted to take my family here to try the "razorclams"; however, on the night we came -- they did not have razor clams. Boo! :( We made the best of it and ordered other food items that proved to be quite delicious. (1) crab noodle soup (thin noodle) - my grandma and mom ordered this dish and really liked it; it is one of their popular noodle soup dishes! (2) crab noodle soup (thick udon-like noodle) - this is supposedly their MOST popular noodle soup, and it's made of REAL crab, woohoo! I ordered this item and it was quite good. Would order again next time. (3) sea snails (grilled in shell) - if you like sea snails, then you should order some of this to try. the snails were huge in size, and you have to use a toothpick to get the meat out. (4) sea snails (in tamarind sauce, out of shell) - this was tasty too, they've already taken the snails out of the shell, so you just eat the meat. yum!! (5) chicken wings - yes, these were good, reminds me of korean bonchon chicken (6) sauteed clams (1 lb) - i LOVE clams, so was happy to order some and pretty much devoured everything on this plate! you order by the pound, so just specify how many lbs you want and they'll cook it in some delicious sauce. Everything we ordered tasted great, everyone in our party was impressed. The only draw-back was that the portion size was rather small when compared to some other Vietnamese restaurants we've been to. The food was flavorful and high quality, which was fabulous. Would I come back again? Likely...! :) Plenty of parking in the lot. Indoor seating is plentiful and spacious.

This place is decent I'd give it 3.5 if I could Pros Can hold a large party The food is pretty good quality Come for the seafood, the flavor is decent The service is good I can't complain, they're more attentive than others Cons It's pricier than the surrounding restaurants The portions are smaller compared to other pho restaurants/ local restaurants

There is something about the rice! It gets cold fast and is just sticky not fluffy. So it's hard to enjoy your crawfish with the rice when you're trying to shove it all in your mouth before it gets cold haha but awesome thing - they provide a bucket of water infused with tea and lemons to wash your hands and rinse out the smell. How amazing is that idea??!

  • Tina N.

The food here honestly isn't that great.. Portions are small. I ordered the banh canh cua. The soup was good but there were barely any shrimp or crab in it. My sister ordered the bun bo xao and the dish had mostly onions. The meat was dry and very little in quantity. My dad ordered the pho bo filet and the soup had a heavy flavor of star anise and cinnamon. Overall I wouldn't go here again, there are way more better Vietnamese restaurants in the area.

Had my hubstar pick up this order. He said that the owners were very nice & they were super proud of their food. I am always delighted when owners take pride in their product! 1) Escargot in Coconut Milk: This is not a first date kind of meal because you will end up sucking the escargot out of the shell and it's not pretty. The coconut milk that it was simmered in was delicious! The snails were snails but the coco milk made the dish. 2) Crawfish: plenty fresh and very tasty. The garlic and sauce they used was heavenly! 3) Squid Salad: on my word, they gave us so much squid, the ginger fish sauce they gave to go along it was delicious. 4) Razor Neck Clam Salad: it was okay, very chewy. 5) Tamarind Crabs: This is a must! If you enjoy fresh tamarind, you will love this combo, the sauce that the crab was stir fried in was so freakin' tasty. Since I don't eat rice... I really think rice would make me a happy camper. Total 100$ but so worth it! --- Husband said the service was good, granted it was to-go... but everything was packaged with care and lots of smile. -- Can't wait to try their other seafood

Went back for another feast, but this time the food trickled out. They were having a huge Birthday party in the back so I'm sure all the food was going there. We spent close to 2 hours waiting for all the food to come out, not good when you're starving, sorry had to knock down a star for that.

We were disappointed with our dishes. We ordered glass noodles with shrimp and crab, banh canh cua, and ribeye steak with rice. Glass noodles were dry; there was hardly any crab meat, and shrimp was over cooked that it was chewy like rubber. The noodle soup was ok. There were one quail egg, one shrimp, two pieces of some sort of paste, and mushrooms and no crab meat in my bowl. Husband ordered medium steak. Steak came out well done, thin, greasy, and nothing like a $18 dish at a Vietnamese restaurant would serve. Red rice was cooked to taste, but it had the fake red color that was not appealing. The corn appetizer would have save the day if they had any. We came at 7pm, and they ran out of the corn dish. To top it off, we wanted to order more quail eggs for our son, and the waiter was nowhere to be found. He never checked to see how we were doing. Husband had to go to the counter to ask for the bill at the end. We would not want to come back to this place; neither recommend it.

3.5 stars to be exact! For my first time here, my friend and I ordered: fried calamari - the calamari was very thin, the batter was flavorful indeed. com Bo luc lac (diced filet mignon beef with rice): great seasoning on the meat, but we got just about 10-12 small cubes of meat. Banh canh via (crab udon soup)- very thick and tasty broth but hardly any add-ons of meat/seafood. Don't get me wrong, I loved the food and everything was tasty. However, we did not think it was worth it. For the prices we paid, we did not get a lot on our plates. Service was great. Although the lady seemed to be pushy trying to sell us the crawfish, but she was kind and attentive. Good food, yet pricey. I would come back again though, maybe when I feel balling after a paycheck!

My new favorite crawfish joint After much convincing, my girlfriend got me to go here with her. We ended up sharing two pounds of crawfish and an order of Oc Len Xao Dua (escargot in spicy coconut milk). The crawfish here was different than other asian crawfish places I have been to. The seasoning was more lemon grass but still with that popular cajun taste. It contained much less oil than other crawfish joints. The crawfish were made from live and were delicious. It was well seasoned and oh so good. We got mild and they were perfect. Probably one of the better crawfish places in my opinion. The escargot were also delicious too. They were drenched in plenty of the spicy coconut milk. Yum! The portion was also larger than other places I have had it. Our total was about $40 for our two pounds of crawfish and 1 dish. It's more expensive here than other crawfish places for the crawfish but well worth it. The service was great. The guy serving us was helpful and knowledgeable. The atmophere is also different. It's much quieter with non of the thumping of club music those other places have. The inside is very large with plenty of tables and TV. They also have a bar. My only complaint is that the plaza parking can get tricky. Overall, delicious food. I recommend if you like seafood.

Unexpectedly great tasting crawfish! I am a die hard boiling crab fan but I have to admit that I licked my fingers dry after eating their crawfish. I would not have done the same for BC since it would be to salty for me (I usually order the whole shabang mild) With that said, I wouldn't classify starfish's crawfish in the Cajun category. I don't know if they had a variety of seasoning, but our server only asked us how spicy we wanted it. It was definitely buttery and garlicy with a hint of spice (we ordered mild). And at the end of our meal, they provided a large bowl of warm water with tea leaves and lemon to get the stench off our hands. I was impressed! So innovative! No need to wash my hands ten times only to have it still smelling of fish. Not to mention how soft my hands felt from the tea oils! I also ordered the egg rolls and bun rieu. Egg rolls were made with the clear rice paper, which I don't prefer but the stuffing was good. The bun rieu was decent for me. The broth was very rich and full of flavor but the meat was a spongy textured patty which I didn't enjoy; however, my friend loved it. I guess those dishes came down to individual preferences. I'm definitely coming back here soon for their crawfish! And their customer service was pretty great too :)

If I could eat the chicken wings 3 times a week I wouldn't ever get bored. The flavors of Vietnam are all present and accounted for. Their soup was rich and flavorful and the salad with pea greens and beef was a perfect summer dish. I cannot recommend this place enough.

Any dishes I order here never disappoints me. Portions here are not very big so just for a party of two we always order 4+ plates. LOL... I am not crazy about it, but my lady loves there strawberry lemonade. She explains it as sweet and salty. A must try Razor Clams Chicken wings Banh Canh Snails in coconut sauce crawfish For some reason this place is never packed. So you don't ever have to worry about waiting. Walk in and you will be sited right away. Food comes out fairly quickly.

Went here with my family this past weekend and it was so disappointing. First off, there was barely anyone in there at noon. Should have known to walk out...but we stayed. The large banh canh was all soup and a small handful of noodles. The large bowl just had more soup than the smaller one. Noodles were probably the same amount. We ordered extra noodles because it wasn't enough for a kid to eat, more or less an adult. We ordered 3 crab fried rice but the rice was dry, hard, and barely any crab pieces. Also, we found a hair at the bottom of the dish. The bun rieu and chicken wings wasn't much better. At the end of our meal, they overcharged us for an extra bowl of banh canh which we never got. Learn from my experience. Go elsewhere where the service, food, and cleanliness are better than this place.

What a wonderful experience. The food is unique, very tasty, great variety, and excellent prices. The staff is professional and friendly. Not only outstanding Vietnamese cuisine but plenty of American dishes and steaks as well. This is a great place for large groups as well.

This place is a hit or miss or maybe they changed the cook. New location much larger and different ambience. Food: Mien xao tom cua. Vemicelli stir fried w shrimps n crabs. Tasted like singaporean noodles wo the bean sprouts and curry taste . On point! Seafood is fresh , no seafood crab smell. Seasoning is good. I've had this dish at their old location. Must say, Huge improvement. Crawfish- Very flavorful. Tastes alot like artist's cf. A little sweet to my taste. If you like spicy then must order once level higher or you won't taste the spiciness. Clams- not too fresh. Alot were bad. Do not recommend Stir fried corn w onions- acquired taste. Famous street food dish in Vietnam. Made w small stir fried shrimps and can corns w green onion. Try it Beer- cheap. $2.50 Service- Very good service for Asian restaurant. This restaurant is huge. You will never have to worry about waiting in line.

What a surprise! And a good one. Nothing fancy for decor, but clean and pleasant. The food was great!!! And I chase food Vietnamese food....from Albany, my to Cali. Crab pho was delicate in flavor by hearty at the same time. The squid salad may have been one of the ice ever had.....ever. Perfectly cooked squid and the rest of the salad was fresh, with layered flavors and textures. What a lucky find!

Went with the parentals to try something new for a change, so they decided to choose this place. Went arriving the name of the restaurant kind of reminded me of what a strip club would be called. Looking through the menu there was a lot of variety. To me it seems like this place was a crash fish at first and then started to add other food items. It's like this restaurant has a identity crisis. Not sure what this place specializes in, which isn't a huge issue. Today I went with the New York Steak which was decent. Kind of felt like something i would of made myself when at home. The service here was excellent everyone is friendly and helpful. Also one of the few times where I got a refill with my drink at a Vietnamese restaurant. Overall, this place is decent when it comes to taste and is super clean. Went to the bathroom to wash my hands, it was actually clean and didn't smell.

I have been here 2 times. Both times, I had a very good & enjoyable dining experience. This is a nice, clean and spacious restaurant. I've ordered a variety of dishes here and everything was delicious! Their consistency and flavoring for all their dishes are on point. I was very satisfied with their food quality. The service here is also excellent. The waiters and waitresses are very friendly and helpful in assisting with food selection. They are attentive and come by (at reasonable times) to check if you need anything, or to take empty plates away. When I left, both times, a waiter took the time to run to the front door to open it for us as we were exiting. I thought that small act of courtesy was notable and left a lasting impression of their quality of service. I will definitely be back again to bring more friends to this new restaurant. Dishes I've ordered: - Sea snails in coconut milk (very flavorful) - Stir-fried razor clams (delicious, but a little lacking in clams...wish they added more) - Corn sautéed in butter & onions (a simple but yummy dish; great for kids) - Rib-eye steak (tender & tasty) - Clams (fresh, plump, garlicky clams) - Crawfish - Baked orange clam - Squid salad Definitely recommend you trying this place!

Bf really wanted to try this place for crawfish. When we came in, the restaurant was empty of patrons. It's pretty large, and I was surprised to see how far back it extended. There was white paper on our table but the waiter removed it. Not sure why because we came here for the shellfish and whatnot. Ordered a pound of shrimp mild and half a dozen oysters. Oysters were fishy (gag) and they don't even come with cocktail sauce or fresh salsa. It was store bought! It's what SOME people would dip their tortilla chips in while watching sports! The two didn't go well together so I didn't even bother with the rest. Okay so you know how when you order crawfish or shrimp at these type of restaurants, it comes in a plastic bag? Well ours came out in a dish. A dish! It didn't even look like a pound but they were somewhat large. It appeared as though it came in a stew of some sort, which I took a sip of and immediately gagged. I like salty things on the regular, however, this was just a mixture of salt, garlic and some sort of sweet creamy tasting seasoning. And didn't I order it mild? It was spicy I could not even eat anymore. I left this place hungry with a few sips of the shrimp seasoning and one oyster in my belly. I suppose some people may find this place decent, but I'm not one of them. I think I'll just stick to Kickin Crab for my Cajun fix.

Had the grilled squid salad and the jellyfish salad. Fresh, complex layered flavors and textures supported with fresh Vietnamese herbs, nuoc mam and chilis. For a good refresher, add a glass of passion fruit (with pulp) and it provides the right balance of acidity needed to cleanse the palate between bites. Add great service on top of that and you have a great lunch experience!

We ordered Min xào tôm cua among other items and were quite disappointed. Not much in flavor and quite skimpy on the crab and shrimp. Our dish had no more than 2 shrimps chopped up in small pieces and hardly any crab. Plenty of onions and carrot! Presentation was not very pleasant either. They pretty much dumped it on a plate w a few cilantro on top. We also ordered chicken wings on rice. 3 pieces of wings!!! For sure, we won't be back.

As soon as I posted my review regarding my personal experience at this restaurant, this person, "v n", who, obviously, is affiliated with this restaurant (perhaps the owner), fired back with rude and malicious comments: "So sorry for the guy who married you" "If we see you come we will kick you out" When I clicked on this person profile, I saw that this person had no profile picture and zero friends (tell-tale signs of a phony account). I also checked out their 4 reviews. This person gave "Starfish Restaurant" (most likely his/her restaurant) and 2 other restaurants, 5-star ratings. The remaining review was negative (one star), and it was for "Oc & Lau Restaurant", which I'm suspecting is their competitor, since this restaurant serves similar kinds of food (e.g., crawfish, various snail and clam dishes). Giving your own business phony, positive reviews and sabotaging your competitor's reputation with negative reviews is dishonest and unethical business conduct. Haven't you read the news lately about authorities cracking down on businesses writing phony reviews, and imposing hefty fines? Additionally, instead of handling criticism in a calm, professional manner, and perhaps reaching out, and asking this customer to give your restaurant a second try (I heard your chicken wings were good), you went and made malicious and rude comments/threats. Just a few words of advice, never get emotional when responding to negative reviews, because anything you say online is public record. Being that we own multiple dental practices, we understand that it's difficult to see negative reviews about your business. However, this is not the time to engage in petty squabbling. Instead, we take this opportunity to address the reviewer's concerns to the best of our abilities, and hope that he/she will continue to do business with us in the future. Perhaps you should try to do the same next time you receive a negative review. That is how you establish a trusting relationship with your current as well as potential customers.

Came here around 8pm on a Saturday night. Ordered Cajun fries, com bo luc lac and some vermicelli noodles with some beef. My com bo luc lac was superb. Loved it. The Cajun fries were good but lacked more Cajun sauce. I tend to love my fries to be full of Cajun sauce. I didn't eat any of the vermicelli noodles so I can't comment on that. Oh we also got 1/2 pound of shrimp and 1/2 pound of crawfish. Both were very good. It was definitely fresh and cooked to perfection. I wish they had the whole sha-bang or whatever like how boiling crab does but nonetheless the sauce was good. Came out to like $34. What a deal. Not expensive at all. Seriously such a good deal to me. The restaurant is also huge. Literally huge. So no need to worry about having a long wait. Lots of servers too. Yay Didn't get to try the chicken wings though. Will be back to try that.

Crawfish is ok. When we order 2 baguette. It took them a while reheat them. Then they bring old baguettes. The ones that usually stay in your kitchen for 4,5 days. And they charged us $3 for those baguettes. Seafood hotpot was horrible. Fish in the pot is very chewing. I dont know why. And the taste was horrible.

Great place for seafood with a Vietnamese twist on spices! When I went, we ordered oc Len xao dua, sea snails in coconut milk, and we got it medium spicy. We also ordered the razor clams, clams, and chicken wings! It was my first time trying razor clams, but it's definitely one if my favorites! Kinda grossed me out that they give you scissors to cut out the sandy part though. In the end, all were so yummy!! Every time we go now, we order at least all these items before moving on to something else. I like spicy so we always add medium or hot to each dish. I think it's a different eating experience than boiling crab as kickin crab and you can taste some Vietnamese spices in their dishes. I don't think you can compare this to those restaurants because the sauces are so different and they're more like a broth here, so it's much lighter. Tip: they're closed on Tuesdays!

Got invited back, disappointing results: Crawfish - 4 stars Chicken Wings - 2 stars, lack flavor and overpriced Mango Squid Salad - 4 stars but way overpriced Bo Luc Lac - 3 stars Special Sea Snails - 4 stars but way overpriced In summary, if you live in the Little Saigon area, there are so many other restaurant options with better food and prices. I would only order the crawfish to-go, the sauce is still the best in town.
